Colette frowned at the crumpled paper on her desk. No matter how she tried, her tiny, fumbling hands could not shape it into the flower she had wanted to make. With a sigh, she slumped in her chair, placing her hands in her lap.
"It's no good, Lloyd," she said sadly, "I can't get it to work. I guess I'm no good at making things after all..."
"You dork," replied her friend as he took the paper from her desk and began to fold it. "You're it all wrong. You have to fold it this way, put this part in here and..." he dropped the finished flower into her hands, smiling triumphantly. "See? Once you get the hang of it, it's a piece of cake!"
The girl stared in awe at the paper flower. How Lloyd could make such beautiful things with his hands... she knew that, someday, he would use his hands for something great; that he would someday use his hands and his heart to create something so beautiful, so wonderful that it would make the world a better place for all people.
That was why she had to die - so that he could continue to make these beautiful things.

He stared intently at the tiny wooden figure with his paintbrush in hand. He was almost finished - just one last coat of paint, carefully applied with the utmost precision and skill, and then...
"Llooooooyd!"
Lloyd started, dropping the figure and the brush on the floor. He quickly turned around. "What the - Zelos, don't do that! Can't you see I'm busy!?"
The older man simply laughed. "Hey, man, don't get so worked up about it! I was just messing with you!"
The young swordsman replied with a grunt and picked up his materials.
"Oh, come on, don't be such a grumpy gus!" Zelos reached around and tugged on Lloyd's cheeks. "Smile!"
He yanked the Chosen's hands away from him. "Stop that!"
Zelos pouted. "Humph. And here I thought we were friends." He waltzed out of the room, peeking out from behind the doorway to wave to the grumpy teen. "See ya, Bud!"
Lloyd didn't look at him as he left the room. Only once he heard his friend's footsteps reach the inn's staircase did he break into a broad grin.

"Here you go! That's a good girl!"
Colette smiled as she gave the dog a piece of bread, which it sniffed for a moment before taking it from her hand. As the hungry puppy wagged its tail in delight, the girl heard footsteps behind her.
"That must have been one hungry dog," said Zelos with a hand on his hip. "No one really pays much attention to the strays around here, though - you give them food once and they come back for more."
She looked at him, surprised. "But I couldn't just let her go hungry, the poor thing..."
The dog finished the bread before begging Colette for more food.
"See? She's still hungry," she said. She then broke off another piece of bread and gave it to the dog, petting the top of its head. "There, there, you can have some... good girl..."
Zelos smiled and shook his head. "I swear, Colette, you must have the patience of a freakin' saint."
However, he didn't need to see her today to know that - he already knew that it took the heart of a saint to care about someone like him.
